Interview with Shenya Koroma, Telu Road, Kenema
I live at Telu Road. I have been there for 22 years. My family has benefited a lot from the services provided by the Mamboma Maternal Child Health Post on Blama Road, especially my two kids and me. As illiterate farmers, this centre serves as our own school. Apart from the regular treatment given to us, they also engage us in community health talks on how to prevent ourselves from becoming ill.

I am a Radiologist from the Teaching Hospitals of the University of Nigeria and one of the two Specialist Nigerian doctors assigned to the Kenema Government Hospital by the Health Ministry to assist with specialist health care delivery and share experiences and skills, and undertake research. I have spent only three months here.

Issa Kamara, 6, lives with his father and mother, Mr. Sheku Kamara. His dad is in charge of the Levuma Health Centre. He was bitten by a snake on Wednesday May 24 in their home at Levuma.

I am a member of the District Health Management team. I have served as DMO for 17 years in two separate terms. The first was from 1986 to1993. I resumed in 1996 following an outbreak of yellow fever in the district. This was through the efforts of the World Health Organization which desperately needed professionally trained and qualified medical personnel to oversee the distribution and administration of vaccines to contain it.
