Interview with Osman Sheriff Fofana, Chairman, Kambia District Council

I have served in this capacity since 2004 when I was elected. That was, after chairing the Management Committee for two years unto 2004.
Osman Sheriff Fofana, Chairman, Kambia District Council

The health care delivery system in our district is better than usual and is improving gradually. As you may already be aware, the ten year war brought health care delivery systems to zero.

It was a crisis situation; almost every institution dealing with health was completely vandalized and destroyed. The few that survived lacked the capacity to appropriately perform their functions. The resultant effects included trauma, suffering and death which could have otherwise been prevented.

Anyone who has visited Kambia recently can attest to the fact that the district now has a modern structure as main referral hospital, with decent staff quarters. Moreover, a reasonable number of PHUs have been constructed and old ones have either been refurbished or rehabilitated.

Moreover, the vulnerable members of society either as a result of age, economic and other social situations now receive free medical services. In fact even the cost-recovery fees have been reduced.

These, among other developments have helped immensely in improving health care in the district to a level that we should start being proud of.

Meanwhile, let me appeal to those who have been supporting the health sector in the district to continue to do more and those who intend to support us to speed up the process.
