From my experience with the community people they are very appreciative of the services we are providing for them, comprising mainly primary health care, including immunization against common childhood diseases, nutrition services, family planning, maternal and child health care and de-worming. These services are rendered free for school children, the aged and other vulnerable groups, while others pay minimal fees to augment the cost-recovery.
Our clinic days are Mondays for pregnant women, Tuesdays for children, including under-fives and Fridays on which we supply CSB food to malnourished children and pregnant and lactating mothers. General treatment to the public is administered on daily basis.
Moreover, we undertake community outreaches in which we give health talks on several public health issues such as personal hygiene and environmental sanitation.
The commonest health problems we deal with here are malaria and Acute Respiratory Infections. Administrative ones include limited access to safe drinking water as our well frequently dries up over long periods. In addition, the working conditions too are not encouraging especially when I continue to work without pay but have to survive. We also need additional equipment to meet with the ever growing needs of our patients, in addition to transport and communication facilities.
As for drug supplies, we have some quantity which are made available to the centre based upon the refunds we make.
