My name is Matthew Jusu Vandy, Programme Manager, Eye Care Services. In 1976, I went to the Nixon Memorial Methodist Hospital and School of Nursing. Upon completion in 1979, I obtained a State Enrolled Community Health Nurse Certificate. I started work in 1975 at the Nixon Memorial Methodist Hospital in Segbwema as a trained nurse.

I attended the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center, Moshi, Tanzania in 1981 where I obtained a Certificate in Ophthalmic Nursing.
In 1983, I went to the Lower Dispensary Druggist School, Connaught Hospital, Freetown where I obtained a Druggist Certificate in 1985. In that same year, I worked at the Alpha G Pharmaceuticals Company as the Druggist-in-charge.
From 1987 to 1993, I went to the Zaporozhye State Medical Institute, Zaporozhye, Ukraine, Former Soviet Union and enrolled in the Faculty of General Medicine where I obtained my Medical Degree.
From 1993 to 1995, I worked with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation as house officer. In 1995, I also worked with the ministry as a medical officer at the Eye Clinic at Connaught Hospital in Freetown.
In 1997, I went to the West African Post Graduate Medical College, Faculty of Ophthalmology where I obtained a Diploma in Ophthalmology in 1999. When I returned to the country in that same year, I worked as an ophthalmologist at Department of Ophthalmology, Connaught Hospital, Freetown.
In 2004, I underwent financial management training for partners with Sight Savers International, Freetown. In 1999, I was an ophthalmologist at Department of Ophthalmology, Connaught Hospital, Freetown.
In 2005, I also underwent a training workshop in Management and Advocacy for Programme Managers in Benin Republic.
Since 2002 to date, I have been the Ophthalmologist-in-charge of Connaught Hospital/ Programme Manager, National Eye Care Programme (NECP).
