To improve on the delivery of quality health care
ACHIEVEMENTS
Since the current Director General of Management Services took over, a number of successes have been recorded by the unit. Among this is the system that has been put in place for the controlling of vouchers.
Before this time, there was no control in the processing of vouchers; hence, with the help of the Principal Accountant, the unit has been able to put measures in place for the processing of all vouchers and other account documents.
the unit has also succeeded in opening various bank accounts for the various units that make up the Ministry.
A task force team has also been set up to ensure the smooth running of the Division and they report to the Director General on a daily basis.
In order to improve on their output, all clerks under the Ministry have undergone a particular training in relation to their areas of attachment.
The various hospitals were not properly cleaned as a result of the lack of manpower. However, contracts have been awarded to private cleaning companies to clean these hospitals and due to the success of this venture; plans are underway for this initiative to be implemented in all major hospitals in the Provinces.
Future Plans
The unit has plans to fence the Bo Government Hospital and other main hospitals in other districts. In order to cut down on the congestion of major hospitals n Freetown, the unit aslo has plans to equip all major hospitals in the country so that patients in the provinces would not have to be transported to Freetown to receive proper medical care.
The unit is on the verge of setting up a comprehensive data base for the movement of staff within the Ministry. In collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General’s office, the unit plans to ‘Roll Out’ the processing of the voucher system in the Ministry so that we could easily process our staff’s vouchers and produce checks at the same time.
One of the unit's aims is to improve on the out put of our doctors. Therefore, plans are afoot to have them trained by surgeons and doctors from the West African College of Surgeons.
Members of the unit are currently putting measures in place to combat brain drain. One of such is to give allowances to all professional workers as an incentive. Another incentive being put in place is to improve on the conditions of service and salaries of doctors which they hope will combat brain drain.
According to the Director General, recommendations made by the Department are currently being considered by Government and he hope that these would be implemented in the nearest future.
