Charlotte, Aug. 8, 07 (MOHS) – Government has provided the people of Charlotte Village in the Western area with a new health centre that would cover the Mortain and Mor Ngegba communities in that area.

Charlotte is one of the mountainous villages in the Western area but with a valley-like difficult terrain to access its immediate neighborhood (Regent) for health care services.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the centre, Health and Sanitation Minister, Mrs. Abator Thomas said she was proud to part of the ceremony noting the urgent for the use of the facility.

She encouraged the Charlotte community and its immediate environs to positively use the facility with a view to promoting maternal and child health care as well as other illnesses.

Mrs. Thomas described the SLPP government as a caring institution, adding that before the war, there were about four hundred health centres but noted that the country can now boast of one thousand health centres country wide.

She appealed to the people to keep the environment clean and maintain a maintenance culture.
The District Medical Officer, Western Urban / Rural, Dr. Amara Jambai underscored the importance of primary health care and appealed to the Charlotte community to cooperate and support the staff that would be working in the centre.

The National Commission for Social Action (NACSA) Deputy Director of Public Works, Mr. Aiah Lebbie said the center is equipped with staff quarters, toilets, an incinerator, and the necessary furniture for both the quarter and the center, adding that some basic medical equipment would also be provided later to strengthen the capacity of the workers.

The Loko Tribal Headman Mr. Modu Freeman and a community female Activist, Mrs. Modu Conteh on behalf of the village thanked government for the gesture which they described as a dream come true, and an entity for the betterment of generations yet unborn.
