Connaught Hospital Manager Presents Status Report

Freetown, Feb, 13, 09. {MOHS} – The Care Manager, Connaught Hospital, Mr. Ibrahim Wasirie Turay has presented a status Report on the improved services at the Connaught Hospital during a Press Conference held at the Ministry of Health and Sanitation Conference hall at Youyi Building in Freetown.

 Making the Presentation on Treatment, Care, Achievements, and the Way forward, Mr. Turay lauded the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Soccoh Kabia for his determination and commitment to improve the health care delivery  services and staff welfare in the Hospital.

Mr. Turay told newsmen that he is optimistic that with the Minister’s current Action Plan, Connaught hospital would be seen as an institution of excellence.

Giving an overview of the facilities in the hospital, Mr. Turay disclosed that the hospital diagnostic capability has improved to an acceptable standard, describing the Intensive Care Unit as best in the country.

He outlined the improved system in the Laboratory Services, the In- Patient and Outpatients Care, and the installation of the C-T Scan which  he said, would help cut down cost on overseas treatment.

 

Dilating on the water situation in the hospital, Mr. Turay said a Specialist  at IMATT is currently assisting them to combat the water supply problem which was  disrupted during the rehabitation and re-construction period of the hospital.

 

He affirmed to journalists that staff performance is very good, disclosing that Free    Diabetic and Epilepsy services are now available in the hospital.

Health and Sanitation Minister, Dr. Soccoh Kabia reminded journalists about the dramatic change in our Mortality rates, describing the recent Demographic Health Survey on the reduction of Under- Five, Infant and Child mortality rates as a significant improvement, compared to previous Reports. Dr. Kabia reiterated that the impact was due to the invaluable collaboration with partners.

He described the  briefing as an opportunity to reveal to the nation the Ministry’s efforts to improve the health delivery system to an acceptable standard, hoping that the  press would help articulate  the new development and growth in their different institutions. Dr. Kabia noted that Connaught, being at the fore front is now imbibed with new innovation and achievements that would be used as a catalyst for posterity.

 

He earlier introduced specialists from the International Surgeons Overseas USA Programme who are currently working with their local counterpart. Their assistance, the minister opined, has made significant progress in surgery intervention.

 

Dr. Kabia observed that our health care has over the years been in a shamble but noted that with the introduction and establishment of  a National Health Services Commission, which would look into Absorption, Promotion, Retirement benefits and improved conditions of service, there would be prospects for an increased quality workforce in all government hospitals.

The Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation, Mr. Sheku Tejan Koroma an the Outgoing Facilities and Maintenance Manager, Mr. Jengopie Stevens advocated  for the Adoption of Wards by Private and Commercial institutions through private partnership to complement the Ministry’s effort in developing the wards.

The Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kisito Sheku Daoh noted the importance of the press in nation building, and encouraged the newsmen to be objective in executing their jobs, hoping that the presentation on the development in the hospital would reflect the current trend and successes made so far.
