Fire Disaster Nine Confirmed Dead

Freetown, Mar, 23, 09. {MOHS} – Nine deaths have been confirmed from the Oil Refinery Fire Disaster at Kissy in Freetown. Six of the Victims were brought in dead and the three whose conditions were described as very critical died in the hospital.

This was revealed this morning during the visit of the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Mr. Sheku Tejan Koroma at the Connaught hospital where doctors, nurses, the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kisito Daoh and team of medical professionals were  battling to save the lives of the victims.

The fire disaster which occurred yesterday afternoon from a leakage in the main oil refinery fuel transfer pipe to Texaco Terminal affected 23 victims that were taken directly to the Connaught hospital.

President Koroma and Vice President Sam Sumana and the Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation also visited the victims to sympathize with them and their family as well as making available appropriate health care delivery services to save their lives.

According to the prevailing situation those with 50 percent burns have chances of survival, and others slightly above may live.

The doctors, nurses, pupil nurses and medical    parctioners in the Ministry of Health  and Sanitation at Youyi Building including the Chief Medical Officer and the Director of Hospital and Laboratory Services are  currently fighting to save the lives of the victims.

Meanwhile, family members storming the hospital are advised to allow the doctors and nurses to do their work inorder to facilitate their speedy recovery.
