MISSION STATEMENT

To ensure the ultimate performance, utilization and maintenance of facilities and equipments of National Health Services

AIMS

To train and retain more technicians and to ensure the establishment of provincial and district maintenance units (for x ray and electromedical equipments)

ACHIEVEMENTS

Since the inception of this division in 1973, the unit has trained and employed twenty-seven Medical Equipment Technicians but unfortunately only seven are currently with the Ministry as the others have left for greener pastures. It has also established a unit in the Bo Government Hospital with an engineer and a team of technicians for the supervision and maintenance of all health facilities.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

The need to have a Technical team of Engineers and Technicians to repair, service, maintain and install Hospital equipments became necessary, hence, the unit was established to look into such matters.

This was because of the distance involved (from manufacturers, mainly Europe) coupled with currency problems, made it extremely difficult to obtain prompt services of technical staff from manufacturers.

Delays in securing technical services also led to medical staff becoming frustrated by the need to use the equipment and this sometimes proved fatal to the lives of patients.
