Deputy Minister Intervenes On NRC Land Dispute

Freetown, July 2, 09. (MOHS) – The Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Mohamed Daudis Koroma and the Director, Primary Health  Care, Dr. Alhassan Seisay have  made an on the spot visit at the National Rehabilitation Centre at  Murray Town  to discuss an issue relating to an encroachment of the Center’s land by the  Murray Town Market women Association and some Youths.

Addressing a cross section of the Market women and the youths at the Centre, formally Handicap International to resolve the dispute, Deputy Health and Sanitation Minister, Mohamed Koroma advised the women and youths to be Law abiding noting that the allocation of Government Lands is done under the Authority of the Lands Ministry.

 

He warned against the illegal possession and encroachment, and urged the women and youths to bring forward their documents to the Ministry so that together they could both discuss the issue with the Lands Ministry to settle the dispute once and for all.

Mr. Koroma encouraged the Market women to adopt a culture of respect for Authorities, and to show understanding with the Management of the Centre with a view to resolving the issue amicably.

 

The Deputy Ministry also expressed dissatisfaction over the erection of a Pub and a Video Centre within the precinct of the Hospital, disturbing the peace of the patients and staff.

 

He described the loud Music played in the hospital compound as irrational noting that it would not auger well for the patients and those taking care of them.

 
Chairlady Aminata Bangura Responding to the Deputy Minister

The Chairlady of the Market Women Association, Madam Aminata Bangura said she was appreciative of the Deputy Minister’s visit, describing it as an opportunity to chart the way forward for a positive solution.

 

She said the Deputy Minister’s interaction would also help to facilitate the long standing dispute between them and their Councilors who had contributed to the allocation of the land.

 

The Minister, during a conducted tour of the facilities in the hospital, visited the Gymnasium, the Treatment Room, the Physical Care Unit, the Central Workshop and other important units where he was briefed by the Supervisor and Physiotherapist of the Centre, Emelia Amara and other Senior Personnel.
