FUTURE PLANS
The Board is currently doing a proposal which would feature on the infant and maternal mortality rate. A large number of hospitals are in need of more midwife volunteers at the Midwifery School; hence some key UN agencies and a handful of NGOs are helping the board with the recruitment process.
The Board is seriously considering setting up a curriculum for enrolment in Community Health.
This would help nurses pursue the midwifery training program, thereby enhancing their chances of becoming full time practicing midwives. It would also go a long way in reducing the high number of infant and maternal mortality rate.
The Board is currently putting mechanisms in place to carry out future in-service trainings in order that nurses would benefit from such refresher courses.
There is currently the problem of retaining nurses; this is due to the current salary structures. However, the director of the board hopes that this and other vital issues would be looked into so that nurses could be retained after their various trainings.
