OBJECTIVES
To deliver health care services at the primary, secondary, and tertiary level.
AIMS
To ensure that the populace has access to affordable and quality health care delivery services
ACHIEVEMENTS
All district and referral hospitals (Connaught, Princess Christian Maternity Hospital, Children Hospital and Kissy Mental) in the country have been rehabilitated and refurbished.
The number of Peripheral Health Care Units have been increased to a total of 870.
FUTURE PLANS
The unit is currently working on straightening other National Programmes (Malaria, TB and HIV)
The unit is also working on a Child Survival Programme with its donor partners (World Bank, UNICEF, and DFID) who have assured the unit of the support in the area of funding. It is hoped that this will bring about the reduction of infant and maternal mortality rate.
Plans to open a Nurses Training School (community health training school) in the Northern Polytechnic and Njala University are underway. This is to increase the current human resource.
