My name is Kadijatu Yullah; I attended Rostov State Medical Institute, Kiev USSA in 1972 where I obtained a Medical Degree at Kiev Medical Institute in 1978.

In 1991 I attended workshop and training on Oral Rehydration Therapy, Red Cross Oral Rehydration Training centre, Freetown, Sierra Leone.

 

I worked as clinical Aide at Kiev State Hospital.

From 1978 to1980 I did a rotating internship, Department of Clinical Studies, Connaught Hospital Freetown, in the disciplines of internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetric/Gynecology and Pediatrics.

 

During my six months training in internal Medicine, which included working in the intensive Care Unit and Emergence Room, my responsibilities included diagnosis, admission, treatment, discharges, and follow up cases.

 

In the Department of surgery I was responsible for minor surgeries, admission, diagnosis, discharge and follow up cases.

 

I assisted in major operations like Gallbladder removal, Gastrectomy and kidney operations and so on. I also performed Apendicectomy and Herniohaphy surgeries under the supervision of a Registrar of Surgeon Specialist.

 

In the Pediatrics Department, my responsibilities included diagnosis, admission, treatment, discharge and follow up of cases and also the immunization of infants and pre- school children.

 

 In the Obstetric/Gynecology department, I specialized in parental care, deliveries and caesarean sections assisted by a registrar or specialist. I was responsible for preliminary gynecological investigation, diagnosis, conservative treatment and follow up of gynecological cases.

 

I participated in operations such as hysterectomy, salpingotomy, salpingectomy, vesicovagina fistula – in repairs and management.

From 1981 to 1982, I did a part time Family Practice at Willoughby Medical Center, Liverpool Street. My duties included all aspects of family practices.

 

From 1981 to 1984, I worked at the Medical Officer Department of Internal Medicine, Connaught Hospital (Main Referral Hospital in the country). My duties included diagnosis treatment, discharge and follow up of cases and carrying out assignments at the Intensive Care Unit and emergency room.

 

I also took part in inter-departmental seminars of cases which are rare and difficult to diagnose. Such cases are presented for discussions between senior surgeons of the hospital.

 

1985 to 1987, I worked on a contract appointment as medical officer, Royal Victoria Hospital, Banjul the Gambia. During this period, I worked with the pediatric and medical units. In both units, I was responsible for the diagnosis, investigations and management of cases.

 

I performed diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as lumbeapuncture, paracentesis of the chest and abdomen, setting up blood transmission, ECG recordings and reading, interpretation of X-ray films and also worked in the emergency room.

 

From 1987 to 1988, I did General Practice at the Lamtoro Clinic, in Banjul the Gambia. My duties included primary health care, diagnostic and management of cases and referral when necessary.

 

I also performed minor surgical cases like incision and drainage of abscesses, structuring of Lacerations and mobilization of fractures.

From 1989 to 1992, I was a Senior Medical Officer, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital, Freetown.

 

My duties included assessment, diagnosis and management of obstetric and gynecological cases. Supervision of house officers, perform caesarian sections and salbingectomy in ectopic pregnancies. Care of the peuperal woman, promotion of family planning. I assisted Senior Colleagues in performing abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy, myomectomy, the repair of vesico-vaginal fistula.

 

From 1992-1993, I was the senior medical officer, Department of Internal Medicine, Connaught Hospital. My responsibilities included assessment, investigation and management of cases. I also performed diagnostic procedures like Lumber punctures, paracentesis, administration of cytotoxic therapy, ECG recording and reading.

 

I took part in carrying out ultra sonography, conducted supervision of junior colleagues, presentation of difficult-to- diagnose cases during grand rounds period.

 

In 1994, I went to Zimbabwe to attend training on the management and Technical skills of Blood Transfer in Harare.

I also attended a Regional Training for senior staff on Blood Transfusion in Kampala Uganda from April to June 2000. In October 2000 I want to Nairobi Kenya where I attended Basic Course for Delegates (IFRC).

 

In 2002 I went to the University of Sierra Leone’s Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) and obtained a Management Principles and Introduction to Financial Management Diploma.

I returned to Harare Zimbabwe in June 2004 to attend the Regional Training on the Recruitment of Voluntary Non remunerative blood donors. Since 1994 to date, I have been the Manager of the Safe Blood Services.

 

My responsibilities include co-ordination and supervision of the programme according to project proposal and budget. It also includes the provision of technical support, supervision of staff, preparation monthly, quarterly and annual reports on the Programme.
