My name is Dr Francis Edward Nylander, senior specialist and Programme Manager of the National School Health Programme and Adolescent Health (AH) in the ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS).

Francis Nylander Manager, School Health Education

I studied in the Soviet Union, where I attained the degree of MD.

I came back home, did my “House Job” and became a Medical Officer (MO).

My experience embraced  working for three years at Connaught, the Government Central Hospital in Freetown, and subsequently as a medical officer in various government district hospitals in Bo, Bonthe, Kenema, Port Loko, Kailahun and Kono Districts in the south, east and north of the country respectively.

I went for further studies at Leeds University in 1994 and graduated with a Masters degree.

Upon my return, I was posted to Moyamba District south of the country as District Medical Officer (DMO), where I served for barely two years before the rebel war forced me to flee   .

I took over as programme Manager and senior specialist of the National School Health and Adolescent Health Programme in 1998.

Adolescence Health is a new component added to the National School Health following a training I did in Abuja in October 2005.
