My name is Zainab Conteh. I am 28 years old and the fifth house wife to Chief Pa Alimamy Bangura, who has a total of six wives. I live at 4 Iscandri Street, Old Port Loko. I was admitted at the Female Ward at the Port Loko Government Hospital on June 7, 2006 after I went into labour.

I am an EDC Unit Dispenser at The Mana II Community Health Post, Lokomassama Chiefdom, Port Loko District, established in 1996 by an international NGO from Germany, CORD. I have served the Mana II community for a decade and the Health Ministry for 42 years, beginning as EDC Unit Assistant. I run the centre with an MCH Aide and a Potter, covering 31 catchments of 8515 people.

I have served as the District Medical Officer in Port Loko since November 2005, when my predecessor travelled abroad for further studies. I also double as Medical Officer-in-Charge of the Government Hospital, a position which I have held since May 2003. I have served the health sector since October 1996, beginning as a Temporary House Officer and ending up as a professional medical doctor.

I am a member of the Hospital Board and also a signatory to drug supply deliveries in the district. The health sector in Port Loko is doing fairly well, considering the fact that most infrastructures associated with health care delivery were destroyed during the war.

The Area Nine New Maforki Community Health Post was set up as a clinic in 2002 by the International Medical Corps (IMC), at the Old Port Loko Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp. The town itself is a new one which evolved from remnants of the IDPs who refused to return to their places of origin during the resettlement exercise.
