Dr. Albert Uche, Nigerian Radiologist attached to the Kenema Government Hospital
I am a Radiologist from the Teaching Hospitals of the University of Nigeria and one of the two Specialist Nigerian doctors assigned to the Kenema Government Hospital by the Health Ministry to assist with specialist health care delivery and share experiences and skills, and undertake research. I have spent only three months here.

We are coping well and making do with what we have, as part of our determination to succeed, despite some serious challenges facing us especially in the areas of medical equipment and tools. But as the saying goes, you can’t use what you don’t have.
However, my colleague Emmanuel Akpo, a Surgeon Specialist from the University of Jos, has returned home to bring along medical equipment which are lacking here, because it is not just enough for us as professionals to see patients and write medicines, but we must take positive steps to save life. That is our calling!
Some of the most common ailments I have been dealing with in Kenema include malaria, peptic ulcer disease and anemia. There is also some level of HIV/AIDS prevalence.
In the area of cooperation, the public health staff, the people of Kenema and other stakeholders have been very responsive.
