Kambia Isatu Sankoh, Petty Trader, Massama Road, Kambia II
I am a small scale farmer and petty trader. I live at Massama Road, Kambia II with my handsome husband and beautiful children. The Kambia II Lorry Park is my place of business. I have been residing in the Kambia community peacefully conducting my business for four good years.
I am one of the pioneers of the “Orkombra” (lactating and caring mothers) Association, a community farming organization in Kambia II, which promotes and protects the interests of its members in moments of joy as well as sorrow and contribute significantly towards community building and development.
As far as my assessment goes, the doctors, nurses and the NGOs supporting them are performing well. Unlike in the past when we and our sisters in particular have to pay exorbitant amounts of money for any service we receive at the Government hospital and community health centers; this is no longer the case.
Our pregnant and lactating daughters, mothers, sisters and aunts and their children now receive free treatment and other services from the hospital and all the health centres that I have visited. Even the registration fee is negligible.
Moreover, we receive free immunization, sometimes treated mosquito nets and benefit from community health talks during outreaches. We are really proud of them! We hope that those supporting them will increase the level of assistance to enable them do more.
Let me take this opportunity to share with you my vision. My vision is a Sierra Leone where no one pays for treatment or other forms of medical attention at public health units at national as well as village and community levels.
