ACHIEVEMENTS
The Unit has treated large number of patients who have regained their sanity after the stipulated admission period. They have also trained doctors and nurses on research work in mental health.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Kissy Mental Hospital is the first Psychiatric Hospital in Africa and is now over 180 years old. It was recently renovated by the Government of Sierra Leone to the standard of any modern psychiatric hospital with funds from the Islamic Development Bank.
Treatment is offered to all mental patients and drug abusers free of charge (food, accommodation and drugs included). The maximum admission time is three months, while the minimum is two weeks. We have all the necessary equipment for diagnosis and treatment.
FUTURE PLANS
The unit hopes to establish branches in all district hospitals in the coming year.
