Women for Women USA / Sierra Leone Poised to Assist Sierra Leone.
Freetown, June 28, 07 (MOHS) – The USA based Religious organization, Women for Women USA / Sierra Leone have expressed their commitment to assist the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and the government in promoting accessible and affordable health care delivery services throughout the country.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Mrs. Abator Thomas at her Youyi Building office in Freetown, the Spokes Person for the organization, Reverend Georgiana Johnson while introducing the team said they are health professionals living in Las Vegas and other parts in America working towards promoting the ideals of a Religious Mission through capacity building for health workers and health care delivery services for the vulnerable.
She said apart from promoting maternal and child health, they intend setting up a Dental Clinic in Freetown, equip other dental units in the provinces, disclosing also the establishment of a Health Facility in Yele in the Gbonkolenken Chiefdom, Tonkolili district, northern Sierra Leone.

Reverend Johnson further spoke of plans to get doctors and nurses that would work along side their Sierra Leonean counterparts in various disciplines including training.
Welcoming the team, Health and Sanitation Minister, Mrs. Abator Thomas expressed gratitude and appreciation over the visit, noting that as women they could bring in the concerns of women in a wider perspective.
She briefed them about the Ministry’s Accelerated Child Survival programme with women at the centre, adding that plans are currently underway to harmonize the project with a view to having a Road Map that would lead to posterity.
Mrs. Thomas encouraged the team to visit the various health facilities in the western area and the provinces including the Magburaka Government hospital, the Princes Christian Maternity and the Ola During Memorial Children’s hospitals in Freetown.
She also stressed the need for the team to visit some depressed areas during their stay in the country noting that it would help making an impact on their needs assessment survey for the procurement of equipment and medical supplies .
The Minister advocated for the provision of ambulances and training that would help upgrade the skills of the Ministry’s drivers who would in turn train their colleagues.
Other areas highlighted by the Minister, included the promotion of exclusive Breast Feeding, Nutrition, Reproductive Health and Family Planning.
