FINAL REPORT ON TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT & CAPACITY BUILDING FOR THE MINISTRY
Transport is a major and expensive resources required to deliver efficiently most health interventions. If it is well organized and efficiently managed, it will ensure equitable and sustainable availability. The reform of Sierra Leone's Health Ministry's transport system is therefore expected to contribute to the achievement of most health objectives. In undertaking this transport situation analysis, reference was made to the five parts of the tried and tested Transaid Transport Management System. REPORT ON A SERIES OF WORKSHOPS ON HARMONIZATION OF THE HOSPITAL BOARDS’ AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACTS
.... From the above, it can be seen that both Acts are primarily aimed at improving the management of services through decentralization, with the Hospital Boards’ Act focusing on the management of health facilities, whilst the Local Government Act focuses on the overall management at the local level. In the view of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, these two Acts must complement each other. However, there exist certain areas of overlap or conflict between the two acts, which need to be amended if the two acts should co-exist.... The more than ten years of war in Sierra Leone devastated Health Facilities in the country. This led to severe constraints on the population with severe health problems as reflected in the disease patterns, the high rates of infant and child mortality, and maternal mortality in the country. HIV/AIDS SERO-PREVALENCE AND BEHAVIORAL RISK FACTOR SURVEY IN SIERRA LEONE (APRIL 2002)
The Government of Sierra Leone and the World Bank asked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to assist with a HIV/ acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) seroprevalence and behavioral risk factor survey. The survey was funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, New York City. The objective of the survey was to provide baseline data for program planning, monitoring and evaluation, and advocacy before implementation of the $15 million multi-sectorial Sierra Leone HIV/AIDS Response Project (SHARP).
